Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I have 20 students that are very excited about learning. I am a Pre-Kindergarten teacher in an urban area. My class is primarily made up of African American and Hispanic students from low income households. These students serve on many different levels academically. Our school continues to grow, we are currently at 650 students from grade PK3 to 5th grade. We are a Title I school, students do not always have the funds to get what they need to make for a great school year.

My Project

My students love building, and to express themselves in a safe space. It is my belief that every child has the right to invent, tinker, create, and make in a stress-free environment. Students need to express themselves freely and use critical thinking and creativity skills.

You don't need anyone's permission to create something GREAT!

That is the philosophy I want to instill in my students, that they can use creativity to make something. Having these materials will allow my students to be able to create new things during our building study.

I want them to be able to come to a space and use these fort building materials to work on critical thinking and creativity skills but feel like they are able to express themselves freely in a non-stress environment.
