Help me give my students the materials needed to start a card store in the school, where they will learn vocational and life skills that will help them become more independent in life.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
HMC-1 is implementing a new program for the 2019-2020 school year that offers functional and vocational activities that focus on the acquisition of skills necessary for increased independence in the community, at home and in employment opportunities. The targeted audience includes 18-21 year old young adults with a variety of intellectual, physical, and sensory impairments. These young adults will be focusing their time in school on preparing for life after high school; which looks different for every young adult, Each young adult will receive help with communicating, planning, and pursuing their personal goals and visions for the future.
These young adults are looking forward to being as independent as possible after high school.
This program will provide opportunities for young adults with disabilities to gain independent living skills, transitional skills, social and functional skills and self-advocacy in real life settings while participating in age appropriate activities in their communities.
My Project
Cards, badges, banners, awards, die cut bulletin boards are used a lot in the schools. These young adults are excited and ready to bring joy to the teachers and staff at the school and show their initiative to be contributing members of our community. Consistent service with a smile is their way of showing others that it is important to choose to include.
These awesome young adults struggle with finding work after high school and this program will provide the jump start they need to compete with others who are also seeking employment opportunities.
This program will also get these young adults off to a running start towards both independence and success while being introduced to real job-related skills and resume building.
The Soaring Eagles Card Shop will be a great way to incorporate vocational, academic, and social skills into the classroom. To start up the Card Shop at the beginning of the school year and branch into more store possibilities, we are requesting initial start-up products and equipment for our business. Your help and support will encourage our young adults and provide them with a start towards success and an opportunity to see their goals and visions in action because of their hard work and perseverance.
