This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students call me Coach; a title as diverse in its meaning as the students I teach and the lessons they partake. During the day I coach 150 elementary students in physical education, grades varying from Kindergarten-5th. After-school I coach a variety of team-based sports that stimulate mind and body requiring students to work together.
Inquisitive, receptive, eager; my athletes approach any sport with open arms ready to add its mastery to their repertoire.
Students here thrive in an environment that gives them the opportunity to try sports they do not have access to in their neighborhoods. The students here are consistently challenging themselves with new experiences. Whether it is dedicating themselves to social justice or taking on a new language. They dive in ready to immerse themselves in the lesson.
My Project
After-school creates a rare occasion when no matter what grade you're in, or what language track you're on, everyone is together. My team is composed of different ages, sizes, races, languages, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Inclusion is a priority and with this equipment, the next theme will focus on unity. It's easy to tell students, "you're a team," but it really starts to sink in when they look the part. These uniforms will help foster respect, acceptance, teamwork, and confidence.
Donations to this project will inspire students to explore and play sports outside of their comfort zone.
With assistance, our Ultimate Frisbee scrimmages can quickly turn into a full-fledged after-school sports league. The team and I are ready to take our first steps toward becoming official. These uniforms will take attention away from who is wearing what brand and allow them to focus on enjoying the game.
