Soar into Second Grade with New Guided Reading Books

My students need sets of fiction and nonfiction guided reading books leveled F-J. With these books we can expose our students to many genres of literature such as biographies, fantasies, historical fiction, science fiction, informational science/social studies, poetry, and realistic fiction.

My Students

“You're off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So... get on your way!” ― Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You'll Go! We teach in a school that believes that all students have great places to go and can achieve any "mountain"!

We are lucky to have a great diversity in the cultures and types of learners in our school.

However, in trying to meet the variety of needs of our diverse classrooms we have noticed that we do not have adequate resources. Many of the reading materials we have does not adequately meet the needs of our highest and lowest readers. We are greatly in need of guided reading books to supplement and reinforce our reading instruction. We also lack books that are of high interest topics to our students.

My Project

These guided reading books would allow us to support our students to "climb any mountain" they set their mind on! These books would help us to reach all learners at their level and allow access to high interest texts in order to challenge and encourage their love of reading. In our classrooms we would use the books for small guided reading lessons and independent reading. We chose texts that would be of high interest to our students. High interest texts increase motivation in readers, especially struggling readers. Having multiple copies of each text will allow us to have small reading groups that can discuss a text together to increase their reading skills and promote their deeper understanding of a text.

Your donations will greatly improve our ability to reach all of our students.

We want all of our students to love reading! These books would help us to continue to provide our students with a classroom full of quality texts that they will enjoy reading and learning from!
