Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The quaint rural community of Nuevo, CA is one of the few communities that has side stepped major commercial development. Surrounded by densely populated lake communities, Nuevo's children are second and third generation students. With over 76% of ours students categorized as socioeconomically disadvantaged, Valley View Elementary students embody the notion of "beating the odds."
They are kind-hearted dreamers, reaching far beyond the horizon for their opportunity to succeed.
We have steered away from asking them what they want to be and begun challenging them to think about how they want to change the world. Creating opportunities where VVES students can build rocket ships of knowledge to access their interstellar dreams is what we strive for. Join us on our never ending intergalactic quest!
My Project
Inspired by the Reach Higher initiative and College Signing Day campaigns, our school is looking to expand our career and college-going culture from Kindergarten to graduation, with an elementary-career week of educational activities. Students will experience the progression of elementary, middle, high school and beyond, through lunchtime demonstrations, virtual tours, and much more.
Access to print materials in color will enhance the visual components of the educational experience.
The color printer will enable me to provide students with both promotional and educational materials in color. For Pledge to Your Future Week the following materials are needed in color: ABCs of Successful Character, 1, 2, 4, or More (Understanding Higher Education, Take Your Backpack to College, Take Your Crayons to College and Careers, Pledge to Graduate High School. All of the aforementioned learning activities are a combination of tangible visual items, print materials and interactive demonstrations.
The career/community worker items, along with the ability to create visually appealing corresponding educational materials, allow multiple learning modalities to be addressed: hearing, seeing, doing. All of the materials requested are intended to inspire students, like the colors they see, to live boldly with purpose! Thank you!
