Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

High school chemistry students will be making soap utilizing their knowledge of stoichiometry principles and other chemistry concepts from class. The students will be making soap from scratch utilizing the saponification technique. This would be a really beneficial experiment for my students to work on because this is a culmination of many different concepts and techniques with a tangible product that they can take home and share with their friends and family.

We have some of the supplies for this lab, but would really benefit from additional supplies to make this more personal and better from our students.

Currently groups would have to share materials, which would allow the experiment to proceed, but definitely limits how much ownership of learning can happen. We would really benefit from additional supplies for this experiment to give our students a more unique learning opportunity.
