Help me give my students access to many nonfiction texts to spark their imagination. We have a shortage of informational books in the classroom and students are so eager to expand their knowledge!

My students come from difficult backgrounds that are characteristic of inner-city youth, but they don't want to make excuses; they want to make a difference! Many experience homelessness or hunger during the school year.
I desperately want them to see beyond their world of need and violence and to realize there is a whole different world out there to experience.
My students have the bright young minds of third-graders. My students must learn many things to succeed: strength of character, compassion, self-preservation, perseverance, and a drive to rise above adversity. Most of all, I want them to have a vision for their future that involves a successful career that possibly began as a spark from a book.
Picture this: guided reading time and students rotate into the library for independent reading. We have a cozy nook with overstuffed pillows and a scoop chair. Our donors have seen the value of our project and students are thrilled to find new informational books about so many topics they hunger for.
With a mind like a sponge, every student will quickly devour every new book, eager to learn more and more about the world around them.
These are inner-city youth, very few have traveled outside of even their own zip-code. These informational books will open to them a whole new world filled with possibilities.
