Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"What are we doing today??" inquisitive, excited students ask as they enter the music room door. My students are very excited to learn many types of music based on their backgrounds and it is my job to make that happen for them. Our school is in the heart of Wichita, Ks and while we are a sweet, giving community, we are in a financially challenged area of town. Our students rely on school to provide them with many things. We are a Title I school with 96% economically challenged population. The majority of our students come to school for breakfast and lunch. They count on us for stability and structure. It is my goal to provide them with a musical outlet and freedom that helps to enrich their lives. My students wish to learn to play the xylophones and we are in need of two additional instruments. Xylophones will help my students process information, learn fine motor skills, improve multi-tasking abilities, and create life long lovers of music!
My Project
The students at GES are wonderful students to work with, though they do come with many challenges. Giving these kids the experience to create their own music through voice and instruments is powerful and we are in need of some tools to help them with their performances. Our music program strives to meet the needs of all students and to do this we need additional xylophones in order to give as many students playing opportunities as possible. With your generosity we can do just this.
Additional xylophones gives us the ability to play well rounded ensembles with drums, ukuleles, and voice.
Because we serve two classes at one time, the instruments that we have available to us are not adequate in number. We are requesting two additional soprano xylophones.
