As a teacher at a Title I school, many of my students come from lower-income families and qualify for free and reduced lunch. We have a high ESOL population, so many of my students speak languages other than English at home. These students are working to improve their English skills everyday at school and at home.
Every day, my students come to school ready to learn and grow in their understanding of the world around them.
We hold high standards for our students and expect them to be their best selves and work hard to be successful in school and in life. Providing opportunities for students to experience the world outside of school in a new way is essential to their learning.
My Project
4th graders learn about Virginia's history. The Jamestown settlement provides hands-on experiences for students to truly understand what life would have been like in 1607. Many students do not have the opportunity to travel to the Jamestown Settlement on their own, so 4th grade is a great opportunity for students to travel with classmates to rediscover the past.
This hands-on experiences both indoors and outdoors at the Jamestown Settlement will help my fourth graders have a stronger understanding of the lives of the settlers in 1607.
All students deserve an opportunity to learn about the past in an exciting and informative way. Going to Jamestown will provide my 4th graders with this opportunity.
