For nine years I have successfully taught primary age children in a high poverty, low income school in an early intervention program classroom. Recently, God called me to another school to teach elementary age children.
Almost 30 years ago I was a student at this very school and I am ecstatic to be able to teach the children who walk through the doors that I once walked through.
Because I am once again teaching an early intervention classroom, the books I received a couple years back from generous donors like you, have been perfect! Thankfully, with much hard work, my students are ready for books that are longer and more challenging. With your generosity, I will be able to build up my classroom library with great books at even higher levels that will continue to motivate and inspire students to become not only literate individuals but also avid readers who thirst for knowledge. Please join me in encouraging the new generation to be the best they can be!
My Project
At the beginning of the school year, I asked students what they didn't like about school. The answer was reading. Considering that the foundation of every subject is reading, this is profound! I knew coming in that reading was going to be a struggle. But to hear that reading is the most hated part of school saddens me. I've been on a journey to change that!
By finding authors of amazing books at various reading levels, highlighting a variety of their works, and then performing read-alouds, my students have found that adventure, inspiration, and companionship await.
With these great titles, we will continue our journey!
