Sure, our students are computer experts when they're killing zombies or flying a spaceship. When it comes to creating a presentation, or developing a web page, the kids need all the help they can get. We have 36 computers in the lab, which is great! With only one teacher, a projector is essential.
Our students come from all walks of life, from all over the city, here in Southern California.
Some ride the bus for more than an hour each way, just to come to our unique little school. Ours is a span school, which means we need to meet the needs of students from kindergarten all the way to the 12th grade. Our small, diverse population of students adhere to our school's mission, "Never give up on a dream."
My Project
Working with 30 or more kids in the computer lab is a challenge. They all want to hop onto the Internet and find their favorite games to play. With one teacher running from station to station, trying to keep the students on-task, a lot of time gets wasted. We had a projector in our lab, but it is no longer functional. We desperately need to replace this equipment so teachers can conduct lessons to the entire class at one time. Particularly in fourth grade, I spend a lot of time demonstrating how to perform certain functions, such as saving a document or printing a photograph.
We know that knowledge of computer technology is integral to future success in today's society.
If one teacher is going to navigate an entire classroom full of students through a computer lesson is almost impossible without the use of a projector. This simple tool makes a huge difference between a successful computer lesson and computer chaos!
