Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have only known my students for one week, but I have learned a lot in a short time. While they each have unique needs, as a whole they have many social/emotional needs.
I am a first year teacher, entering a new district, starting a new grade level, and I am continuing to fill an empty classroom.
All students deserve the best; help me make that possible!
I have purchased a classroom set of the essential supplies (pencils, erasers, scissors, colored pencils, paper, etc.) but there a lot of items missing that will help them achieve their best throughout the year.
My Project
My project covers various areas of need that will greatly benefit students in need. These students live in a rural area and most are from low-income families. There is a 30+ minute drive to the nearest major shopping center, which has a large impact on what these students are given for school. We only have 180 days in a school year and it is my goal to provide a safe, clean, and healthy environment for them. Volunteers and donations are lacking, but I know there are others out there wanting to help!
Providing a safe and healthy environment will be provided in various ways.
Some of these supplies will allow me to provide a safe place for students to eat breakfasts/snacks that I keep on hand, when students are in need (snack trays). Books and posters will promote healthy eating habits and help us to tie in elements of our science units.
My wishlist of supplies include a set of stools that will be used as flexible seating at a collaboration station. My students are building their sense of “class family” and learning how to work positively and constructively with small groups. Providing a semi-private area will help promote a positive atmosphere for small-group work & group reads.
The 10-drawer file cart will help to declutter our room and supply me with an area to place their upcoming paperwork. The room does not have much counter/desk space and my piles have begun to grow. I have high expectations for students to keep a clean and organized desk, but I need to lead by example!
Last, but definitely not least, Clorox cleaning supplies. These are essential in every classroom! Decreasing absences is a goal in the district, so I make sure to keep my classroom clean and disinfect daily.
