This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My art classroom has three new Kindergarten classes! My Kindergarten supplies will be gone twice as fast.
Our town was devastated by Hurricane Isaac and one elementary school flooded.
My school will be hosting three Kindergarten classes until January; all come to my art room. My supplies come from donations and items purchased personally; there is no budget from the school board. In my current schedule, I'm teaching six Kindergarten classes. These students use different materials than other grade-level classes.
My Project
The Kindergrtners share trays of large Crayola crayons and scissors (that are meant for smaller hands). Why do we run out of the same colors? Who knew that red, brown, and green crayons would be the first to disappear? With twice as many students using the expo markers, scissors, and other supplies, I don't know how long I can replenish these everyday materials. 3-D projects are really treasured master pieces. We need wiggle eyes and feathers to add to our projects. It's that little something extra that opens a smile even wider. My classroom uses so many dry erase markers to draw examples and write the steps of our projects. Throughout the day, I start with an empty board and reteach the steps with each class.
One of the things I like to say to my students is "use your imagination!" The reality is, the students are limited to the materials I provide them with.
With a donation, we can expand their options (and their imaginations) to create wonderful master pieces!
