So Many Beautiful Books (+ Three New Reading Pillows)
Help me give my students beautiful books (Newbery winners and the best of the best in graphic novels... Tiger Rising, Nest, Roller Girl, etc.) and three new reading pillows.
I'm new to my school, so I'm just getting to know the 740+ students I see each week in the library. Each of them has a unique "inner reader" I want to help feed, since reading is a path down, which their lives will be changed, enriched, expanded and, ideally, filled with joy and meaning.
I'm getting to know my new students, collectively and individually, and I'm enjoying sharing books with them!
I, of course, I want to help build a culture of voracious reading, so I'm always looking for ways to get both the books I want to steer them towards (Newbery Winners and ALA Notables) and the books they're opening my mind to. (graphic novels)
Each new book I acquire goes into a collection that 740 kids have access to.
My Project
The 740+ kids who visit the library are hungry for good books. The best are getting checked out the minute they're returned. We simply don't have enough of them.
It's exciting to see the enthusiasm and rewarding to be able to feed it!
New books and a few new reading pillows (to nestle up with books in) would be appreciated by many!
One copy of each book would be held in the library, where they'd be read by kids when they visit the library each week. (For now, it's the best way to share the in-high-demand books.) The second copy would, of course, be available for checkout.
