Help me give my students a cleaner classroom by providing us the the necessary cleaning supplies to use after every class, and especially after every lab.
As this is the first year Chemistry will be offered at my new school, I am asking for your help to build the supply closet with the basic materials to effectively implement the Chemistry curriculum to teach our first senior class at a small school in Oakland.
With a diverse group of student body, from the highly-motivated, college-bound ones to the working student-athletes and students with a variety of special needs, all my students are excited to explore the world of Chemistry in my classroom.
I would love for them to have multiple "a-ha moments" as they connect the theoretical and molecular with the hands-on laboratory activities designed to make science more accessible to every and all types of learners.
My Project
It is flu season, and several of my students miss class because they are getting sick. My goal for this project is to have cleaning and sanitizing supplies for my students to use in my regular classes and as well as in the labs. The soap would not only serve as a way to teach students good hand washing habits, but also to clean and wash glassware. In addition, I will be using some of these materials as part of the lab: dish washing soap in Biology for extracting DNA from Strawberry Lab, toilet paper and baking soda in Chemistry for exploring Gas Laws, to name a couple.
I also plan on using these supplies for my Advisory Service Day Wednesdays for when my students help clean our classroom as part of their community service hours.
This teaches my students not only to give back, but also to take pride in their space. The sanitizing wipes, garbage bags, and the other supplies would allow me to do that every week.
