Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are friendly and enjoy coming to school. They work their hardest and help their peers learn, too. They are the sweetest ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) kindergarten kids you will ever meet. The majority of my students come from foreign countries and are English Language Learners with ASD disabilities.
I am teaching STEM to my kindergarten students who are all eager students.
At this time, my classes are low on materials that can be used in STEM education, and as the budget gets cut, it is getting harder to get supplies and resources for my classes.
My Project
The students in my school come from homes that are not able to provide some basic needs that we may take for granted. We have several families that send students to school with dirty or oversized clothes that are shared among siblings. I will put the Tide pods in a Ziploc bag and give it to the parents so they can have some detergent to wash their clothes.
With students who cannot afford to do laundry, I will take their clothes on Fridays and wash the clothes for my students during the weekend.
I will bring the washed clothes on Monday so they can have clean clothes to wear for the week. I will repeat the process until I run out of laundry detergent.
I want to help my students feel comfortable when they are at school by having laundry detergent to wash student uniforms, so they can feel comfortable in class and focus. I want my students to feel proud of themselves when they are wearing nice clean clothes.
This is the flu season. I have also requested Lysol wipes and disinfecting spray for the classroom to ensure students do not pick up germs as the temperature changes. The Lysol would be use to wipe of their desk every Friday, and the disinfecting spray would be used before and after school so the room would be germ free.
