Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are kind, caring, and curious! Students in grades Pre-K to grade 8 attend a full service community school in an urban community. Our inclusion programs house students with varying disabilities and needs. 85% are eligible for free or reduced price lunch, and 67% speak a first language other than English. Our school community is one of great diversity and seeks to be inclusive to all cultures and abilities. Students who attend this inclusion school receive special education services from a variety of service providers including speech language pathologists (monolingual and bilingual), occupational and physical therapists, a school psychologist, and adaptive physical education providers.
What our students and providers need are supplies to keep our classroom safe and healthy so we can be healthy all year long!
Each year, teachers and school staff go through dozens of boxes of tissues, sanitizer and cleaning wipes to keep shared areas clean!
My Project
Happiness is a freshly cleaned therapy room! My students range in age from 3 years to 15 years. While there are remarkable differences between students across these age spans, there is one thing that is the same among all of them....GERMS! As students (and staff) return back to school, we all bring coughs and sniffles which persist throughout the year!
In order to keep the therapy spaces safe and clean, my students need a reliable vacuum cleaner, sanitizing wipes, and tissues to help reduce the dust and grit (or glitter), germs and control sniffles!
We want to have a healthy year where students and therapists are able to be present in school and not stuck home in bed!
