Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am honored to teach a wonderful population of students. A majority of the students are English Language Learners (ELL), and my school serves as a host school for refugees coming from various places.
I look forward to every day with my students, embracing the wonderful differences and experiences they each bring.
I want my students to know they are valued, loved, and safe when they come into the classroom. I strive to model and teach a growth mindset so each kiddo knows that their potential is limitless.
My Project
As a teacher, I need to provide my students with the tools that they need to be successful. Every student needs to have access to basic supplies such as pencils, crayons, scissors, colored pencils, and erasers for those "oops" moments. The reality of my teaching experience so far is that many families are not financially able to provide these basic supplies for their child. I do not want this to be a barrier to the education of the students that enter my classroom, or a point of embarrassment for kiddos that don't have shiny new supplies on that first week of school.
Having community supplies in the classroom helps to teach my students how to share.
I believe that having community supplies teaches my kids patience, among other social skills that are needed throughout life. Having these supplies will help reinforce these social skills and also help them show what they have learned in class!
