Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students don't have a place to sit for our read aloud and lessons as a whole group. We can sit on the hard floor but it is very uncomfortable. My carpet was taken away because it was not fire retardant. I would like a nice comfy place where we can meet as a class.
Tomorrow is the first day of school.
I met most of them at Open House, and have heard nothing but good things from previous teachers. I already can tell that many are creative and social, hard working and organized, silly and serious. I would like to have a warm an inviting place for them to listen and learn.
My Project
Last year we didn't have a rug in my room because mine was taken away, so we stayed at our seats for whole group, which doesn't lend itself to a cooperative learning environment. Also, I felt disconnected from my students and they felt disconnected from the lesson. Having a colorful and inviting area for whole group lessons and small group lessons will benefit them by encouraging a more cohesive group dynamic and add to the idea that learning is bright and fun.
I like to have my room as colorful and inviting as possible, and when we are sitting on a hard floor that is really uncomfortable. This rug is large enough for my entire class with room to spare so we aren't cramped, and colorful like the rest of the room. I know the students will love it.
This rug may look just like a rug, but it is more.
This rug will be our meeting place, our center. It will be where most of these students will learn the strategies for reading, math, and become a community of learners. It will make the room whole.
