Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I work in a primary classroom ( grades kindergarten to 2nd grade) where the focus is teaching the social, emotional, and behavioral skills necessary to be successful in the educational environment.

My students are outgoing, resourceful, and energetic and love learning.

They have the energy to learn and need some additional guidance on tapping into their strengths to be successful in school. In our Title 1 school, most students do not have access to mindfulness resources they need to develop these strengths.

My Project

In a classroom you engage in a variety of different instructional groupings to ensure that you are meeting the varying needs of students. In the classroom you will see whole group, small group, one on one, student-led, and teacher lead instruction. Whole group instruction is the time during the day when all of the students and teacher are able to introduce new concepts and learning and engage in classroom meetings. This is a time of day when the classroom community joins together to engage in learning. I would like to have a colorful rug for our whole group space. This whole group rug will provide a designated area for students who have enough space to engage in our classroom community. A giant classroom timer will also help pace out learning and assist students with identifying the start and ending time of a group activity.
