Some of the most meaningful learning happens between the students through accountable talk. I have created a classroom where respectful listening and talking take place.
I am currently teaching at a Title I school.
My students love expressing their own thoughts and providing feedback to others, but we do not have a rug to sit on that clearly defines each student's personal space.
At our school, the students do a lot of turning and talking during whole group lessons. This type of learning provides students the chance to express their own thoughts and opinions while being listened to in a respectful way.
The rug with butterflies will be great for the kind of turning and talking that happens in my classroom. If two students sit on a butterfly, it will be easy for the students to quickly turn and talk with their neighbor. The rug will also be used in math to help teach number bonds.
It is important that the students have a rug where they can come sit and share with their classmates during whole group instruction.
Besides my students having a clear space of their own, the rug will also provide the students with an ABC and Math tool that they can use all year long.
