Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are emerging leaders who are discovering their passion through education every day. While my students are learning reading, writing, and math like other children nationwide, they also face adversity daily at home and in their community. I teach at a Title I school located in PA where 89% of my students are economically disadvantaged. Even so, I am committed to providing the best resources and educational opportunities I can for my students.
A majority of my students hope to be the first in their families to go to college and each of them has amazing goals and dreams for their future.
At this time, my school does not have a library for students to access and there is limited funding for classroom books or textbooks.
My students inspire me, challenge me, and help me grow and I want to ensure that I am providing all of the opportunities I can to help them grow and learn as well. I believe that Donorchoose.org can support me with this goal.
My Project
Currently, my students have very little access to books at home and our school lacks a library. My students rely on the books I provide for them in my classroom. My students read independently for 20 minutes every morning in homeroom and then again in English class for 30 minutes. As the year continues, my students are more excited to read and love looking at new books I bring into the classroom for them! However, with only one bookshelf in the classroom, we are severely limited on space and the books have become disorganized and piled up. I hope to be able to properly display a variety of books in an organized and accessible way for all students. This way, students can browse books and have the ability to choose one that really appeals to them.
