This year, my students are from a mix of grades! During Physical Education, it is their time to shine in a different way in school, through physical activity. It's a way for students to see their skills outside of the classroom.
Many of my students are from low-income households and live in small, cramped, and crowded spaces and that's if they're not living in a temporary housing unit or shelters.
There is not much green space or large safe spaces for them to run around and play in. Physical Education class gives them the chance to grow in a way they often could not outside of school. In order to get my students up and moving, I need materials that cater to their size, growth, and development. This includes athletic equipment and basic life needs like snacks, sneakers, and clothing items.
My Project
The amount of times I have seen some of my students with literal holes in their shoes is so upsetting. Sometimes they don't have access to basic needs and I want this project to help change that. As a physical education teacher, I find it exceptionally important that students are prepared with their basic needs for school and for life. An active child is a healthy child. Unfortunately, students cannot participate in my class if they have holes in their shoes, they are falling apart or are ill-fitting. This project aims to cull these problems by helping to provide my students with brand new shoes!
