My Students

I am the K-2 Title I reading teacher in a low income southwest Missouri school district. I work with approximately 30 students, either individually or in small groups.

I love working with the youngest struggling readers who usually still have a love of learning.

Their potential for learning can only go up if I can help them see the relevance of how learning to read is a vital life-long skill. I do a variety of reading assessments to help guide my instruction and also collaborate with the classroom teachers. I strive to use many multi-sensory strategies to address my students' many learning needs. I am beginning to help a few classrooms with math instruction also.

My Project

My students are expected to know many sight words to help aide them in beginning reading instruction. I received part of the sight word set in my last project and would like the rest of the set.

Many students struggle with learning and retaining sight words.

The kindergarten and special ed teacher use these SnapWord cards to help their students learn their sight words. The kindergarten teacher told me that her students have learned their sight words a lot faster this year due to practicing with these cards. Learning sight words frees up their brains so they don't have to decode every word as they are reading new instructional text. This will help with reading comprehension. Having my own classroom set of SnapWord Cards will help me reach more students in their quest to learn more sight words.
