My students need Snap Words to learn the most common sight words using multiple approaches. Stamping the words is mode ALL my students can use to "write" their words.
My school is the largest school in our district with 650 students K-5th. We are a growing town - expanding everywhere. We have a variety of economic levels, intellectual abilities, and behaviors. Within our population, we have students with an array of special needs.
Children with disabilities are still children; they like to play, laugh, learn, question, be part of the school community, and have friends just like any other child.
My classroom is composed of the students with more significant disabilities. I have K-5th students with Autism, Down's Syndrome, and Intellectual Disabilities.
With the variety of students in my classroom, there are many levels of abilities - academically, cognitively, and physically. Many students have difficulties completing everyday academic tasks. However, many have great inspirations and ideas to share.
My Project
With having multiple grade levels, learning styles, abilities, and educational levels, the importance of finding resources that helps in all those areas is difficult. I have found one - Snap Words!
Snap Words teaches sight words using movement, visual support, rhymes and rhythm to teach sight words!
I have used this program to teach letters and have seen success. A fellow teacher uses Snap Words and has seen amazing results! To add a spelling component to learning sight words, stamping the words is an easy and fun way. I cannot wait to see the growth and excitement when the students begin to read independently!
