Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school and many of my students come from low-income families. All of the students receive free breakfast and lunch based on their socioeconomic status and all of my students are hungry to learn.
My students and their families are very special and face many challenges at home that make it difficult to come to school prepared to learn.
A lot of them have to work long hours after school to help their parents pay for the essentials and some even help pay the bills too. Giving back to the students, when I can, helps me build a stronger relationship with them.
My Project
The resources from this project will address my students urgent needs right away. Students are always asking if I have snacks. I try to always have something but it is hard to feed so many of them. My students want to be successful in life and I would like to provide them with all the essential tools that they will need. Some of my students schedules are so packed that they will go the whole day without eating a thing. They participate in after school activities and don't eat until they get home.
With this project, my students will be able to have a snack when needed so they can focus on their academics and participate in after school activities without being starving at the end of the day.
