This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are from low income homes. We are a 100% free lunch school. During this pandemic my students are learning from worksheet packets every 2-3 weeks. Most of my children have no device to go online with. They can use their parents phone for a limited time when a parent comes home from work. Most have been laid off or are still working as essential workers in supermarkets and nursing homes. We have given a few devices but most can't go online without any device to do remote learning.
My Project
Our school is giving out work packets every 2 weeks. To have these work packets to include snacks that will help tide my students over until the next meal delivery. Having these snacks in their work bag will help my children be excited about their learning packets. My students were dependent on breakfast and lunch at school every day. We now deliver breakfast and lunch, Monday and Wednesday only for the week. Giving an extra snack can really make a difference to my students during this time when cafeterias are closed.
