My Students

The students at our high school are incredibly self-motivated. They all are college-bound, some first-generation. A large majority of the student body takes at least one AP test a year. These students face challenges on a daily basis; however, they remain on their path undeterred.

Students at our school come from all over the Oklahoma City metro area and are from a diverse group of backgrounds.

We are a majority-minority school, and over 55% of students are in free and reduced-price lunch programs. Our students see challenges as stepping stones toward their ultimate goal of success at a four-year university, not as a dead end.

I am proud to call myself their teacher!

My Project

My school tries their best to make sure our students have equal access to food. We have an amazing kitchen staff for breakfast and lunch. We even have a Grab-&-Go option between the first and second hours each day for students who miss the breakfast window. There's a vending machine in the main hallway for students to use between classes. However, I still have students every day telling me they are hungry in my class. Not every student has money for the vending machine. I also can't expect the students to eat breakfast or lunch if they do not like what is being served that day.

I would like to have snacks available in my classroom for these students!

This will help them keep their focus on the lesson, and off their stomachs.
