Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very talented, young individuals who come from a high poverty section of New York. They face challenges inside the school to succeed and do their best, and they struggle outside of school to not allow their environment to stop them from achieving their dreams. We are a one hundred percent free lunch school. Our students strive to become role models and leaders for their community.
This year for me is extremely different and challenging.
Usually the art teacher at my school for 19 years but this year I am a 4th grade teacher.
My Project
My students are 100% remote and I know they are missing the basic needs that they would receive in school with breakfast and lunch. My goal is to create care packages with some healthy snacks of protein chips and goldfish and yummy treats like cookies and chips that I can send home with them so that they can enjoy.
My students come from a very low -income community in NYC.
They lack the basic supplies and needs and being able to give them a little care package I know will make the world of difference to them.
