This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Hello, I am a first year teacher, working in a new Kindergarten classroom, at an at risk school.
Many of my students are from low income homes and school is a safe place for them to come to and be valued.
In our classroom we are trying to develop a sense of a class family. We work together and build each other up.
I have yet to meet my first group of students ever, but I know with your donations I can make this a meaningful first year for the whole class!
My Project
Due to the fact that my students eat lunch so early, giving students a quick snack boosts moods, and prevents the distraction of hunger. I chose snacks that kids love such as cookies, fruit snacks, fruit bars, granola bars, and chips, that are individually wrapped and easy to hand out.
My students eat lunch at 10:30 in the morning, and then, (understandably) complain of being hungry by the afternoon, and so they cannot focus on their work because of this.
During snack time, is a good opportunity to talk with the students about their lives, interests, and hear their stories in order to build personal relationships.
