My students come from diverse backgrounds. They have high expectations for themselves, and I hold them to high standards that they are eager to meet. They do not let the fact that we are in a low-income district and facing many challenges due to budget cuts and low funding stop them from achieving their goals.
The challenge of motivating my students to meet goals they think they could never accomplish drives me to work as hard as I can every day.
My students are performing on various academic levels. Some are above grade level, some are at grade level, and some are below grade level. Many students lack the resources at home to help them reach their academic level.
My Project
Many of my students are below reading and math levels; therefore, I am providing after-school tutoring and a full three day Spring Intersession for them during Spring Break. My students have a difficult time learning when they are hungry. The snacks will help my students stay focused and be more engaged in their after-school learning in my classroom. During Spring Intersession, my students eat as early as 10:30 AM and by 2:00 PM, they are hungry again.
My students exhibit bad attitudes and poor work ethics when they are hungry.
After school, before tutoring starts and during Spring Intersession, I want to be able to give them snacks from Pepperidge Farm Goldfish, Frito Lay Variety Pack, Austin Zoo Animal Crackers, and other snacks to satisfy their hunger and give them the energy needed to focus on learning.
