I teach third grade at a diverse Title I school in southwest Florida. Our students come from numerous cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. My students speak English, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, and Chinese! Through lots of hard work, our school continues to help our students succeed.
All of our students participate in a free breakfast program and over 60% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch.
In third grade, our lunchtime is very late and it is a long morning for my students, even with the free breakfast.
I encourage my students to bring a healthy snack each day, but many do not bring anything, or they bring unhealthy items like cookies or other desserts.
My Project
Growing brains need fuel!
For this project, I am requesting non-perishable snacks such as crackers, energy bars, and fruit snacks.
I want to provide my students with healthy snacks so they have the energy they need to complete their work each and every school day. By furnishing a variety of snacks for those students who do not bring one from home, ALL of my students will be able to enjoy a snack. I also hope that showing examples of healthy snacks will encourage those students who DO bring a snack from home to bring healthier items.
Thank you for helping my students have a healthy and energetic school day!
