My students live in a rural town in Ticonderoga, NY with over 50% of the student population receiving free or reduced-price lunches. Most of the students in my classroom receive academic intervention services in reading or special education reading support. When I asked my students if they had books or read at home, most of the students did not raise their hands.
My students are passionate, creative, and thoughtful.
I take every opportunity that I am given to allow and encourage my students to read as much as possible.
My goal is to foster a lifelong love of reading and math in my students.
My students need rulers to measure objects for math and science class. The students love getting their rulers out and measuring objects around the room, but unfortunately not all students were able to bring a ruler in from home, so we are currently sharing.
Students are also given a morning break where they are able to eat a snack from home.
Like the rulers, not all students are able to bring in a daily snack so I would love to be able to provide some extra snacks in school for the students who are not able to bring one in.
