Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is an urban high school with about 1,000 students and it is a very diverse learning environment! My students encompass a variety of backgrounds, beliefs, and ideas. My students love interacting with their peers, socializing and telling jokes. They are full of passion, energy, and excitement and take pride in their successes.
Many of my students come from disadvantaged backgrounds and deserve to have every opportunity they can to succeed.
They are excited to be a part of our school and I hope to help provide them with the skills they need in my class and beyond.
My Project
Some of my students often arrive late to school and miss the cut off for hot breakfast and the grab and go stations. For the upcoming school year, we are shifting to modified block scheduling which means students will be in class a little bit longer before they go to lunch, especially if they are on a late lunch wave. If students are hungry, they are not able to focus on their school work and be successful in class.
These snacks will help provide fuel to my students to help sustain them throughout the day, especially in the morning.
