This project is inspired by my students who come in late and miss breakfast. As they anxiously await lunch, the students' attention isn't completely focused on the work and the tasks given to them. My students have asked for snacks, and we decided we should keep some healthy snacks on hand for occasions such as this.
I noticed that providing snacks for the students not only helped them stay on track during school time, but they were more likely to work harder and do better in school.
I am asking for goldfish crackers, fruit snacks, popcorn and other snacks for the students during school hours. The students are hungry to learn and would benefit from the nutritional snacks to keep them full and focused on their schoolwork. I am requesting various snacks and drinks such as cereal cups, pretzels, and crackers. No child should have to learn on an empty stomach!
During the pandemic and virtual learning, it became alarmingly clear how much social emotional education needs to be focused on in the classroom. It was a concern before Covid, but even more so now. We are still teaching through Covid, but I am making sure that all of my students needs are met- not just academic ones. Kids can't learn when they are hungry.
Finally, I am requesting two other types of items. One would be storage totes to store the snacks in our classroom, but also for storage space for our classroom library books. The last request is for a special science experiment I want to try with the kids this year that I think they will really like! If funded, the students will get a chance to dissect a model frog! I loved during an experiment like this when I was younger. Thank you.
