Snacks Motivate Us, Part 4

Help me give my students more snacks, drinks and candy as incentives for staying motivated at the end of the day.

My Project

This year I have an inclusion class during the last block of the day. These students range from 10th to 12th grade, and they all have one thing in common: they have failed Algebra I and the Regents Exam at least once. In New York, students are required to earn 3 math course credits and 1 math Regents credit. With that being said, my students need to pass this class to graduate.

During the last block of the day, motivation is running low and my scholars are tired and possibly overwhelmed.

Most of my students understand the importance of this class when it comes to their future, but they have already seen failure once or multiple times, which really affects their confidence and motivation.

My special education co-teacher and I are using snacks to motivate our large group of persistently struggling students. We have started to implement a ticket system where students can earn tickets to get snacks. It's no secret that students are motivated by food.

These snacks will increase their energy and motivation at the end of a long day. Each snack costs a certain number of tickets that students will be able to "buy" at the beginning of class during a designated time so that they have the snack while they are working to keep them motivated.

We are also requesting printer ink to replenish the ink from a printer received in a previous project to benefit our Student Government which is responsible for creating, printing, and posting flyers for school events.
