This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach about 80 eighth graders in a school of about 550 students. Middle schoolers are quirky, high energy, and drive you crazy at times, but are still extremely lovable. I am excited to help each child become a reader and find a book they love through the use of lots of books and technology.
Catching and keeping their attention is no easy feat.
Often, they view themselves as too cool for school. Therefore, I have to work even harder to grab their attention and then keep it. Using technology to teach English skills is how I plan to entice my students to learn.
My Project
Our school starts at 7 am. Most students start the day before 6:00 in order to ride the bus to school. It is a very long day, and they get really hungry. While most of my students receive free or reduced price breakfast and lunch, some of our families are financially unable to give their children snacks for the day, and my students are often hungry throughout the day.
My 8th graders need snacks such as fruit snacks, chips, pop tarts, and nuts to keep them energized for learning all day long!
These snacks would allow our students to have enough energy to keep on reading and writing throughout the day and grow their brains! If we can make sure they get a snack, they will be able to better focus and really build the fundamental knowledge necessary for them to go onto the next grade and continue to be successful throughout school.
