Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a STEM-based charter school with 74% of our students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches. The families we serve really want what is best for their kids, and trust me, as their teacher, to help make those decisions. The students in my classroom are very loving and caring individuals.
As Margaret Mead once said, "Children must be taught how to think and not what to think." When I walk into my classroom, these are the words that I live by.
Our students are passionate, eccentric, beautiful, intelligent, and all-around amazing. When you look into their eyes, you know that they are eager to consume knowledge. These students appreciate each and every day that they spend in the classroom because they know that they are going to use their minds in the most creative and innovative ways possible.
My Project
Through this project, I will be able to provide snacks, not only for the students within my classroom, but for students throughout our K-8th grade building. Many of the students we teach do not have the ability to bring a snack to school every day. To have them available within our building will be a huge help. We know how hard it is to focus on an empty stomach. I am looking for things that the students are able to eat quickly like breakfast bars, Goldfish crackers, Sunchips, and other snacks. This will ensure that our students are able to maintain focus during the day in between breakfast and lunch or lunch and dismissal. Students will also be able to take a snack home if they choose.
Having a full tummy will allow our students the opportunity to work to their full potential without worrying about feeling hungry.
In addition, we are getting into that time of the year where our 3rd through 8th grade students will be partaking in the state standardized assessment. We want our students to feel well-prepared and successful whilst taking these tests and being able to offer them a snack before or after the assessment will help alleviate their anxiety about tummy growls.
