I teach at a Title I school in Sacramento where 95 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students face challenges in life due to poverty, unstable housing, and language barriers. Although life is not easy, my students are extremely positive, grateful, and happy children. Our school faces the same issues many other schools face in low socioeconomic areas. We strive to meet the basic needs of our students so they are successful in school. My students are amazing people. Every day with them is a new adventure, as they continually challenge and inspire me to become a better teacher; I learn as much from them as they learn from me! These inspirational students deserve to have the best education that I can possibly give them!

My Project
Most of my students live in poverty. While my families are doing the best they can, they often struggle to provide basic life essentials such as food. Food is often scarce in my students' homes. If students are unable to get to school by 7:35 a.m., they do not get breakfast. Many parents struggle to get their child to school on time. Through no fault of their own, my students often are too late for breakfast. Lunch is not served until noon. When my student arrive without eating, they are hungry and cranky. It is next to impossible for them to focus on school when their stomachs hurt from being empty. When snacks are provided, they are happy, comfortable, and able to focus on school. This project will allow for my students to have a little something to eat, if they missed breakfast. Healthy snacks like crackers and granola bars will give my kids the focus and energy to be successful at school.
