I am a first-year teacher working in a Title I district. The group of students I am teaching are very unique and different from any other group of students I have had the pleasure of teaching. Many students in my class come from low-income households and close to 80% of my district is receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Some of my students are ELL and need extra support during all parts of the day. Most recently I have recognized the emotional needs of many of my students, and I need the tools to support them and nurture them. It's important to me that my students have everything they need to learn and grow.
I want to give my students the best learning experience possible and I hope to do that by getting them the supplies they need to have a successful and productive year in second grade.
I want my students' experiences in school to be meaningful and for each of them to feel like part of a community, free from the stresses of things outside of school. It is my ultimate goal to support my students socially, emotionally and intellectually.
My Project
A majority of our student population come from low income families.
I have become aware that many of my students lack essential food supplies at home which prevents them from coming to school with a snack.
Many of my students depend on school breakfast and lunches to supply their nutritional needs. The items I have requested, such as fruit snacks, crackers, and chips, will give me the opportunity to provide them with snacks so that they can focus on school and not on how hungry they are. I want to offer snacks to my students who aren't able to provide their own so they can be the best learners they can be.
My students come to school everyday excited to learn and be with their peers. I want to ensure that no matter their individual or family struggles that I can provide a safe and comfortable environment for them to learn and grow.
