Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Please join me in making a better life for my students. In our district, over 36% of our families live under the federal poverty level. Many students struggle to have their needs met, and many believe that they are stuck in the life they currently live.
I want my students to know that they have options, can have an amazing future and are not defined by their current circumstances.
A large percentage of my class is in foster care or lives with a family member. Many of my students have had little or no stability in their lives. Many students are moved from home to home, with few or no belongings. Many students have at least one family member who is gang-affiliated or in a nearby prison. Many of these babies have stories that no child should be able to tell.
Many times school is the most stable and safe place that students know. That stability is important for student learning. If they don't feel safe, loved and have their needs met, they often have a difficult time learning. Thank you for helping them to have their needs met.
My Project
Many days, my kiddos come to school feeling hungry. If their parents get them to school on time, they are able to eat breakfast, but for several, this rarely happens.
The several students who haven't eaten, sit-in class and complain that they are hungry, not able to focus on their work.
This is why this project is so important to our classroom. We need to keep our students learning. To do this we are requesting Frosted Cheerios, Pop Secret Popcorn (that can be popped as needed) Hanover pretzels, Cheeze Its, GoGoSqueeze apple sauce, Saltine Crackers, Welch's Fruit Snacks, and many other snacks to keep us focused on school, instead of our tummies.
