This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are 5th through 8th graders who read below grade level. They are eager to learn, but often learning does not come easily to them. Many of my students are years below grade level in reading and writing by the time they come to me. Our goal is to make at least a year of growth each school year. This is a difficult feat. This is difficult because we are an urban school, many of my students come from poverty, and parent involvement is lacking. Teachers that I work with try to overcome this by providing all that we can during the time that we have with them. We can only do this with your support.
My Project
Many of our students come to school hungry and need something quick in their belly. Many students also get hungry before and after lunch. Having a quick and healthy snacks like animals crackers, sun chips, and cookies to give out will make a great impact on our student's ability to focus on learning and not the hunger pangs.
A hungry belly can be a huge distraction for many of our students.
Often times, what our students eat at school is all they will have all day. The students look to their teachers for additional snacks throughout the day. My team of teachers takes great pride is providing all essential needs for our students.
