Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from diverse backgrounds. They are part of a Dual Language classroom, in which half their day is taught in English and the other in Spanish. They are wonderful students who are full of love, curiosity and enthusiasm. Their love of learning has brought them to a new level.
Growth mindset, goals and hard work have made them successful.
I am proud to be their teacher, and would love for them to feel school is their second home. They often call me mom by mistake. This makes me smile!
My Project
"Miss, I'm hungry!" My students work very hard daily. They have an extended school day to help close the achievement gap. Our school has a 92% poverty level, so they often come to school without breakfast. Lunches at our school are good, but do not provide them with adequate nourishment. They are all growing children. If they had a snack that they could count on daily, it would make their day. These snacks will benefit their learning by providing them a boost of nutrition when they need it. I believe if the students have their daily needs met, it will make them easier for them to have a successful day.
