I work at a Title I school in Round Rock, Texas, just north of Austin.
The best part of my job by far is interacting with my students and getting them excited about science.
I love watching their passion and interest grow as we explore new topics. I'm fortunate enough to teach classes that most students find interesting, namely Forensic Science and Astronomy.
As it's my first year teaching, I was really nervous about how 150 Juniors and Seniors would react to me. I'm fresh out of college and full of enthusiasm, but the thought of being in charge of teenagers frightened me. Luckily, all that worry was wasted because I am blessed to teach an incredible group of young men and women. They're respectful, kind, and generous and have made this difficult first year much more meaningful than they'll ever know.
My Project
Many of my students come to me throughout the day asking for food. I've been buying snacks for those who need them, but since I have 150 students and a teacher's salary, it's getting a bit difficult.
If I can provide them with a snack, they are much more likely to feel cared for and be able to focus on the lesson.
I have students who sit in my room during lunch every day, but some students are not able to reliably bring/buy lunch. I would love the chance to help give them what they need to learn and grow.
