This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Students in my class attend a Title I school where most qualify for free lunch due to their economic status (as reported by their parents during enrollment). Though their tender age affords them the luxury of not fully knowing this fact, my students are very well aware when they are lacking necessities that make life livable and comfortable.
My class represents a large diversity of cultures and academic abilities, however there is one constant -their yearning to be better than they were before.
The students are all excited about mastering their grade-level concepts for language arts and reading especially, while exploring more Accelerated Reader; however, their passion for learning is not matched with the economic requirements in order to ensure their well-rounded growth.
My aim is to provide a classroom of few limits and to alleviate limitations caused by financial shortcomings. I want my students to feel that their education is being fostered by the belief that they deserve the very best offered and will receive it. My students are strong willed, future innovators, needing just a little (financial) support to get their dreams in motion!
My Project
I want to provide my students with snacks to eat while completing their homework. Too often, my students ask me before they leave if I have a snack they can have for when they get home. I know that hunger can lead to students being distracted and unable to focus. I would like to provide them with the fuel to persevere!
My students will take snacks home twice a week on homework days.
I think it will encourage them and motivate them to go home, sit down, and focus on their homework. I think the incentive of a snack will provide nourishment as well as comfort for my student who get home before their working parents.
