Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach high school kids from all around New York City. They come from different boroughs and neighborhoods all trying to get away from violent gangs and trying to focus on their education. They are a great group of kids who are always looking for ways to learn new things about technology. They come to the classroom filled with interest and creative minds. More than a positive attitude and thirst for learning, these kids come to my classroom with empty stomachs and excessive troubles brought about by homelessness and other social issues from their communities. They often ask if I have food, water, and other household items to give them because they are feeling hungry, have not had a decent meal, or need products to keep themselves hygienic.
My Project
My students will greatly benefit from receiving water, cookies, and other variety of snacks as it will help boost their energy as they do their work during class. They are also able to bring some of the snacks home to share with some of their family and friends. I have seen from past experience with these kids that when my students are provided some snacks in between or during class, that they are able to focus more, have more motivation, and are able to complete their tasks better because they have the energy and alertness to successfully finish their work.
