My Students

My students are from a low-income, rural community in Northern Maine. Our small school is where students not only learn coursework, but also important skills for the real world. My students love to be active learners who think, collaborate, analyze, and make connections from the past to current events. My students have unique challenges in reading, writing, and participating in activities compared to their peers. However, I love that they are investing in their futures and challenge themselves in my classroom.

My Project

I would love to be able to provide snacks for my students who are unable to provide their own snacks at school. Many students don't eat breakfast for one reason or another. Close to fifty percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. This causes food insecurities at home and is preventing them from bringing a snack to school. Students benefit from having a snack in the morning or afternoon to help them stay focused on their learning. By providing snacks to my students will help to remove this barrier and I hope it can make a real difference in a student's learning at school.
