This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are autistic students who have a love for reading, writing, and social studies. I currently have forty students in my two special education classes. The students in my classroom are vibrant, excited and eager to learn. They come from a low-income, high-poverty school district. Many parents are not able to provide the life experiences that many of us would see as “typical.” It is my honor to educate these students and I always strive to provide the best educational experiences.
"Energetic" and "excited to learn" is the best way I can describe my students.
The majority of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our school has been categorized as one of the lowest 300 schools in the state.
My Project
My students face a variety of challenges in our area. Some students receive their only meals at school. We also eat lunch at 10:30 A.M. By the normal lunchtime my students are starving and having trouble focusing and doing what is expected of them. We have to help them have more in life. It is impossible to function on an empty stomach. They must eat the snack food to fill their stomachs so that they can think and perform in school activities. They will feel better socially, emotionally, and physically.
Students need the food to fuel their minds.
If we don't help them, who will help them get the nourishment that their growing body needs.
