Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a rough part of San Diego but have great hearts and minds! Because of their life circumstances, the majority of them don't realize their amazing untapped potential, and I love to come to work every day to show them how amazing they really are!
I like to think of my students like M&Ms: hard on the outside but sweet on the inside.
I have seen such amazing growth with my students so far this year and would love to help them mature and evolve even more to become independent thinkers who will strive to make a positive difference in their communities and the world!
My Project
There are many ways to motivate students to behave and perform, so I would like to be able to have some extrinsic motivators for my students.
I am going to implement a token economy with my kids, and these snacks and treats are going to be just one of the items they can "purchase" with their good behavior points.
The bigger picture for these rewards is that I am in the process of gamifying my classroom with a Star Wars theme and escape game puzzles. I have two other projects up that relate to gamification, and I need all the pieces to implement this classroom model.
