Help me give my students an Orville Redenbacher Hot Air Popper, a supply of Amish Country Popcorn, and storage jars to have for STEM learning and for healthy snacks.
I am the teacher of twenty energetic and remarkable 4th-grade students in a city with the most ethnically diverse neighborhood in our country! Our district has over 48,000 students, encompasses almost 2,000 square miles, and has more than 130 schools and programs. There are over 100 languages spoken by families in our school district.
Each morning my students walk through the door and are greeted with new opportunities to learn and to be successful.
My students are very creative and, as their teacher, I do my best to foster their learning and provide opportunities to grow as individuals. Our classroom is full of eager learners and very hard workers with ethnically and economically diverse backgrounds. Each of my students come from his or her own unique situation and home life. Every single one of my students has strengths to share, as well as room to grow academically, emotionally, and socially. We are a strong and loving classroom community that works together to ensure learning, growth, opportunities, and successes for each other.
My Project
I would like to be able to provide my students with STEM opportunities in the classroom using popped corn and kernels. My students will have opportunities to use popcorn to learn concepts including place value, estimating, graphing, structural integrity, physics, analytical thinking, mass, and volume.
Utilizing supplemental materials and manipulatives is important to students.
It is a time to enjoy each others company, develop social skills, and have hands-on fun while learning and reinforcing concepts. Besides, what better way could there be for kids to explore STEM concepts than using something they can eat? Popcorn!
Additionally, I would like for my students to be able to have a healthy treat every once in a while that is different from the pretzels, the graham crackers, and the crackers that they usually have for snack. Moreover, it would be wonderful for them to be able to contribute to the preparation and the making of their own snack.
With the help of generous donors, as well as Donors Choose, providing these materials for my students is possible! An airpop popcorn maker, popcorn kernels, and storage jars to keep our kernels fresh, would be a fabulous addition to our classroom. Thank you for your consideration.
